Amazing Grace

🌿 Why Is Grace Amazing?

Imagine standing before the King.
You have broken His law.
You have nothing to offer in your defence.
Justice demands a verdict, and you know you cannot save yourself.
Yet instead of leaving you to face the punishment your sins deserve, the King, in His great love, provides the payment for your sin through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Justice is satisfied.
Mercy is freely given.

You are not merely pardoned—you are welcomed into the King's family.

That is why grace is amazing.
It is not amazing because God overlooks sin.
It is amazing because God dealt with sin completely through the sacrifice of His Son.

Grace does not ignore justice.

Grace fulfils justice through Jesus Christ.
The cross is where God's perfect justice and perfect love meet.
There, Jesus willingly took upon Himself the punishment that we deserved, so that we might receive the forgiveness that we could never earn.

The Apostle Paul beautifully captures this truth:

"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace."
Ephesians 1:7 (NIVUK)

Notice what Paul does not say.
He does not say that we redeemed ourselves.
He does not say that our good works purchased our forgiveness.
He points us entirely to Jesus Christ.
Our redemption came through His blood.
Our forgiveness came according to the riches of God's grace.
Grace is amazing because it is God's gift to those who could never deserve it.
It is freely received, yet it was purchased at the greatest cost imaginable—the life of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
That is why Christians have sung about "Amazing Grace" for generations.
Not because grace is cheap.
But because it is priceless.
